History
The Herdade do Esporo estate was established in 1267 and the property has been owned by the Roquette family since 1973. Their first wine was bottled in 1985. The winery are keen to preserve tradition whilst seeking to combine this with innovation. Production is overseen by the well respected and highly experienced winemaker David Baverstock. His philosophy is to create authentic and exciting wines, taking full advantage of Portuguese heritage
Regional Information
Herdade do Esporo is characterised by the diversity of its volcanic and schist soils. Warmed by the Alentejo sun, which is tempered by cool Atlantic breezes, the Estate stretches for over 1800 hectares and includes 500 hectares of vineyards and 82 hectares of olive trees. Sustainable production methods are used throughout and a large area of vineyards is currently being converted for organic production.

Vinification Details
Grapes were de-stemmed and lightly crushed. Fermentation commences using cultured yeast and lasted for 7 days at 25C in stainless steel vats before pressing using a membrane press. The wine undergoes full malolactic fermentation to soften the mouthfeel & provide a rounder finish. The wine was then racked off its lees and matured in the tanks with the addition of oak staves for 6 months. The wine was fined and filtered prior to bottling.
